Your mission

Your Mission
At Conceptboard, we’re building a collaboration product that teams in critical environments—from public administration to enterprise customers with the highest security requirements—rely on every day. Quality isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s part of our core promise.
As a Staff Engineer for Engineering Effectiveness, your job is to make good engineering practices the path of least resistance. Specifically, this means: You’ll raise the quality bar across the entire delivery lifecycle—from well-defined ticket scopes to meaningful code reviews to tests that truly build confidence. You’ll introduce guardrails, tooling, and coaching to the teams—ensuring they can continue these practices independently after you leave. Your measure of success: The team owns the practice, not you.

Your Responsibilities

  • Establish quality throughout the entire delivery lifecycle. Your primary focus is on measurable quality improvement: review coverage, test confidence, ticket clarity, and postmortem action closure. You ensure that quality is not an afterthought, but is built into the workflow from the very beginning—through meaningful automation, clear standards, and tools that engineers actually want to use.
  • Drive agentic engineering. You actively shape the adoption of AI-powered development practices—with a genuine commitment to quality and without compromising the requirement that the output remains reliable and reviewable.
  • Embed and empower. You coordinate with the Engineering Manager, immerse yourself in teams in a targeted way—whether it’s a sprint, pair programming, or a workshop—and step back as soon as the team is able to sustain the practice on its own.
  • Deliver tools that are respected. You build guardrails and automations that are actually used. A “noisy gate” that no one takes seriously erodes trust faster than no gate at all.
  • Take ownership of the rollout strategy. Whether it’s a Lighthouse approach or a broad rollout—the decision and the outcome are yours. You experiment, measure adoption, and codify what works into standards that the organization adopts.
  • Help shape the role. The purpose is set; you actively help determine how this role best serves the organization and contribute your own suggestions.

Your profile

Must-haves

  • Lateral leadership. You have a proven track record of driving behavioral change through influence—without formal authority. Practices that remain in place even after you’ve moved on.
  • Builder mindset. You can personally deliver tools that engineering teams respect. Your hands-on experience is current—not that of a manager who last wrote code years ago.
  • Genuine commitment to engineering culture. Improving practices and processes that manifest in a healthy engineering culture is what drives you—it’s not an external mandate.
  • Pragmatism over dogmatism. An 80% solution that can be rolled out smoothly is often better than a 100% solution that takes over the entire organization. You know when “good enough shipped” is more valuable than “perfect pending.”
Strongly preferred
  • You’ve built or seriously integrated AI-powered dev tooling solutions—with a genuine commitment to quality (not just “using Copilot”).
  • You’ve worked in low-maturity environments and made a lasting impact there—where best practices weren’t yet the norm.
